Feet and Orthotics

From Dr. Peter Marshall-

I have been assessing feet for thirty-six years. I suffered from poor feet mechanics personally.

Many other patients also suffer from aches and pains in their body that originate from poor posture of the feet.

When walking or running, feet can roll over excessively and is termed, “over-

pronating”. This can disrupt normal alignment and function of the knee, hip and

pelvis and can lead to weakness, pain or discomfort in some of these areas.

Other potential problems include, plantar fasciitis, shin pain, heel spurs, restless

legs, medial knee problems, bunions.

Ever wondered why you have degenerated knees, hips or low back joints?

One obvious reason is because, just like a car tyre, long term poor alignment of the

feet (as in spinal misalignments) can cause wear and tear to these other affected

parts of the body such as in the knees, hips and spine.

The answer is to treat the CAUSE of these complaints that are a result from over-

pronation, by restoring the lower limb’s natural angle using orthotics (arch supports).

Here at the Whanganui Chiropractic Centre, we undertake a comprehensive

exam to see if your symptoms could be originating from poor feet posture and

movement and to see if you could benefit from wearing orthotics.

Not everyone needs orthotics, and in some cases, it is possible that people just

require advise on better footwear, or perhaps, strengthening the area is better suited.

Only a thorough examination will determine your need…
